Technology giant Apple has announced the launch of its latest device, the new MacBook Air.
According to the firm, the launch signifies the reinvention of the traditional notebook.
Apple
said its new computer is the first in range that will 'replace
mechanical hard disks and optical drives with internet services and
solid state flash storage'.
The firm said the new range will be faster, more reliable, lighter and smaller than its rivals.
Steve
Jobs, Apple's chief executive officer, said: 'MacBook Air is the first
of a new generation of notebooks that leaves behind mechanical rotating
storage in favour of solid state flash storage.
'We've taken what
we have learned with the iPad - solid state storage, instant-on,
amazing battery standby time, miniaturisation and lightweight
construction - to create the new MacBook Air. With its amazing
responsiveness and mobility, it will change the way we think about
notebooks.'
With a starting price of $999 (£633) the new notebook
will available in 11-inch and 13-inch models and will weigh as little
as 2.3 pounds (1.04kg).
